Thoughts on traditional burial

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

I think your article on cremation misjudges those who choose this over traditional burial.

For some of us considering cremation the choice would stem from a desire not to be ostentatious with grandiose caskets and elaborate departure plans; and yes, without the cost of those things. In California they have an ability to be buried in a simple shroud as Christ was. Cremation seems the closest to that simplicity.

The idea of keeping the body for the funeral seems very impractical because you would probably have to embalm and rent a casket. This seems anything but simple and seems to destroy the point of cremation. I hope you will address these points in some future article.
