The nature of relabeling

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

Mr. Chafee, like many progressives, relishes the idea of relabeling things. It's in their nature. With our Governor, for instance, marriage becomes "a feeling.” Life in the womb becomes "a choice.”

Additionally, the state's First Lady, his wife (or, partner, if you will), has suggested, essentially, we relabel condoms as "emergency school supplies". Why, then, should we be shocked that our Governor would want to re-label a Christmas tree a "Holiday Tree"? He'll tell you that it has to do with "inclusiveness". With marriage, he'll wax about "equality". With Life issues, it's about "rights". Whatever platitudes used, one thing remains constant; it is always at the expense of the traditional Christian perspective. With thirty-something percent of the popular vote responsible for his election, it's mildly surprising that Governor Landslide unashamedly pontificates a fairly radical agenda for Rhode Island. Chagrinned as many of us may be, many citizens sit in silence as a response. We are too busy with daily affairs, or simply don't know what to do. If this remains unchanged, we will be his enablers. Things will continue to erode. Fortunately, we have a bishop in Providence who sees the big picture. We all need to join him in displaying some sorely needed Christian virtue, particularly two that were more widely known in our grandparents era than in our own; prudence and fortitude. We must realize what is truly happening in our state, and also our nation. We need to start showing, without a doubt, that we too can be insulted. We must sand up and be counted. There are many more of us, truth be told.

What a state of affairs. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.
