PORTSMOUTH — The Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus with the Board of Trustees of St. Philomena School have announced the appointment of Brian Cordeiro as principal of St. Philomena School commencing July 1, 2015.

Cordeiro has been principal of Immaculate Conception Catholic Regional School in Cranston for the past five years.

He will assume the position of principal upon the retirement of Donna Bettencourt-Glavin, who has served as principal of St. Philomena School for the past nine years.

“We are very grateful to Mrs. Glavin for her many years of loving, faithful service to our very successful school and we thank her for her loyal support,” stated Sister Bonnie Moser, Provincial leader of the Sisters FCJ and Board member. “St. Philomena School has made great strides under her leadership. Her retirement is well deserved.”

Sister Moser described Cordeiro as an “exceptional Catholic school educator.”

“His experiences demonstrate his unique ability to animate school community members —faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and Board members — towards a shared mission and goals. He is deeply committed to Catholic education, combining high academic standards with a life of service and a commitment to developing the spiritual life of students and community,” Sister Moser said.

St. Philomena School is a Pre-K through grade eight Catholic co-educational school founded in 1953 by the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus. St. Philomena School draws students from many different cities and towns in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. A Blue Ribbon School, St. Philomena has received accreditation and approval from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the R.I. Department of Education and the Diocese of Providence.
