St. Basil Parish marks 100th anniversary

LINCOLN – St. Basil parish will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend, October 13 and 14, with a banquet and a Mass.

On Saturday, October 13, the parish will host a banquet and Arabic dance at the church, starting at 6 p.m. The following morning there will be a Mass at 10:30 a.m.

The church was originally located in Central Falls but has recently moved to Lincoln. The parish was founded by the late Bishop Harkins in 1907 to serve the Syrian community that had settled in Central Falls. The first pastor, Father Hananias Boury, was one of the few priests of the Greek-Melite rite in the U.S. at that time. Msgr. Joseph S. Haggar is the current pastor of St. Basil parish.

The growing parish bought its land in Lincoln and construction was completed on the new church in 1998.

For more information contact St. Basil Church, (401) 722-1345. Reservations for Saturday’s banquet and dance are $50 and can be made by calling the church.

All are invited to the Mass
