Ninth annual Scholarship Dinner to honor three 'outstanding individuals'

Msgr. Albert A. Kenney among those to be honored for exemplifying values of 'character, scholarship and service'

PROVIDENCE — Robert A. DiMuccio, chair, president and CEO, Amica Insurance; Rev. Monsignor Albert A. Kenney, vicar general and moderator of the Curia, Diocese of Providence and W. Michael McNamara, AFSC, mathematics teacher, La Salle Academy will be honored at La Salle Academy’s Ninth Annual Scholarship Dinner to be held on Thursday, May 21, at the Providence Biltmore Ballroom.

“La Salle Academy is fortunate to count these three individuals as members of our community,” said Brother Thomas Gerrow, FSC, president of La Salle. “Each in his own way sets a positive example for our students and represents the values of character, scholarship and service that we cherish at the Academy. The proceeds from the Scholarship Dinner will be used to benefit tuition endowments that will provide financial assistance to families, enabling their children to become part of La Salle’s rich tradition.” In the last three years, more than $1.5 million has been raised for endowments at La Salle.

DiMuccio, a 1975 graduate of the Academy, will be awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his leadership roles and outstanding career in the insurance industry. In addition, DiMuccio has served in a number of community service capacities, and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, given by Rotary International for outstanding community service. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Property Casualty Insurers (PCI) Association of America and is president of the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council. In addition, DiMuccio serves on the boards of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, the Property & Liability Resource Bureau, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Washington Trust Company and Crossroads Rhode Island.

Msgr. Kenney is this year’s recipient of the Lasallian Service Award. He has served for 13 years as La Salle’s chaplain and was a very visible member of the school community. He founded a peer support group for students whose parents had died and was instrumental in many Campus Ministry programs. During his tenure at La Salle, Msgr. Kenney was appointed director of Priestly Vocations and vice rector of Our Lady of Providence Seminary. In 2004, he was appointed rector of Our Lady of Providence Seminary. In addition, Msgr. Kenney has served as regional coordinator for the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors and was elected treasurer and then president of the National Association of College Seminary Rectors.

In 2011, Bishop Tobin appointed Father Kenney as vicar general and moderator of the Curia and on May 6, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named him as chaplain to His Holiness and he was given the title Reverend Monsignor.

The Lasallian Legacy Award recipient is W. Michael McNamara, AFSC, a member of La Salle Academy’s Class of 1963. McNamara has served as a teacher of mathematics at La Salle since 1971. In 2010, McNamara received the honor of Distinguished Lasallian Educator. In 2012, he received the honor of affiliation with the Brothers of the Christian Schools, earning the designation “AFSC.”
