PROVIDENCE — As Hurricane Maria relief efforts in Puerto Rico begin to respond to a humanitarian crisis, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin announced Tuesday that the Diocese of Providence, through its Mission Office, is donating $10,000 to the Archdiocese of San Juan to assist with hurricane relief efforts. Hurricane Maria, which made landfall on the U.S territory last week, devastated the island, leaving the entire country without power and a dwindling supply of food, fuel, medicine and access to clean water. “This hurricane season has been especially punishing,” said Bishop Tobin. “Hurricane Maria left a trail of destruction and now presents a real life-threatening crisis in Puerto Rico. I want to extend my spiritual support and prayers as well as those of the diocese to all those who continue to struggle as a result of this disaster.”
