Annual White Mass to be celebrated at Fatima Hospital

NORTH PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Catholic Medical Society invites all physicians, health care professionals, workers, their families and patients to the 2015 White Mass. The Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 14, at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, 200 High Service Ave. Reverend Monsignor Albert A. Kenney, Vicar General of the Diocese of Providence, will celebrate the annual White Mass, and ask the Lord’s blessings upon those called to share His work of healing. Father Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., Ph.D., S.T.D., associate professor of Biology at Providence College will be the homilist. A light reception will immediately follow the Mass in the hospital cafeteria. St. Gregory the Great Church launches adult Faith Formation Series WARWICK — St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, will begin a new Adult Faith Formation series on Tuesday, October 20 in the church hall. The class will be held from 7 - 8:30 p.m. The first topic in this series focuses on the Church. Ed Trendowski, of the Diocese of Providence’s Religious Education Office, will lead the first class, exploring many aspects of the Church, from its history, its organization, the roles of the clergy, religious and laity as well as its authority to teach, rule and govern. A series of four classes will be held October 20, December 1, February 23 and May 10. Pro-life Day of Prayer PROVIDENCE — The 40 Days for Life campaign will host a Day of Prayer on Saturday, October 10 from 9–11 a.m. at Planned Parenthood, 111 Point St. This vigil will be held at the same time as the National Day of Prayer event. We will pray to defund Planned Parenthood, for an end to the harvesting and selling of baby parts and for the souls of all children killed in abortion. Haunted Labyrinth CRANSTON — The Haunted Labyrinth, New England’s longest-running haunted house, will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through Halloween from 7–10 p.m. at Rejoice in Hope Youth Center, 804 Dyer Ave. The Haunted Labyrinth is run by adult and youth volunteers to benefit the center’s youth ministry activities. Harvest Bazaar at Sacred Heart Church WOONSOCKET — Sacred Heart Church, 415 Olo St., will be hosting their Harvest Bazaar on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 8, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will be a major raffle with a $300 money tree, lottery wreath, split the pot, penny social, Gramma’s attic, kid’s corner, grab bags, gift certificates, sweet shop, wines and more. Knights invite community to Silver Rose Mass WOONSOCKET — Woonsocket Council 113 invites parish families to the Silver Rose Mass, to be held on Sunday October 4 at 3 p.m. at All Saints Parish, 323 Rathbun St. The State of Massachusetts will be transferring the Rose to Rhode Island at this Mass. The Silver Rose pilgrimage is an occasion for prayer and spiritual renewal centered on the rosary. This year, six roses are making their way throughout all of North America, convening at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico on Dec. 12 to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. ‘Singing Saints’ from Father Doyle School to sing at Providence Bruins game PROVIDENCE — The Father John V. Doyle School ‘Singing Saints’ choir, led by the school’s Performing Arts Director Judy Burns, will perform “America the Beautiful” at the Providence Bruins game on Sunday, October 11, 3:05 p.m., at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Although newly formed, the ‘Singing Saints,’ comprised of students in Grades 5 through 8, are seasoned performers. Their credits include the Diocesan Middle School Music Festival, the R.I. State House Holiday Concert series and the Coventry Tree Lighting ceremony. Knights to host breakfast NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus will hold a breakfast at the Council Hall, 1265 Tower Hill Road, on Sunday, October 11 from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. The menu will include scrambled eggs, home fries, French toast, bacon, baked beans, hot and cold cereal, apple crisp, orange juice, coffee and tea will be served. Fall Pancake Breakfast to benefit mission trip to Jamaica BARRINGTON — A Fall Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the St. Luke’s Jamaica 2016 Youth Mission Trip, will be held on Sunday, October 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at St. Luke’s School, 10 Waldron Ave. The Missionaries will be serving light and fluffy pancakes, maple flavored sausage, coffee, juice, cider and a wonderful assortment of baked goods. St. Paul Church to host Alpha Talks Series CRANSTON — St. Paul Church of Edgewood will host Alpha Talks, the international dining and discussion series that focuses on different aspects of Christian faith. The weekly sessions are geared towards people who are searching for spiritual direction in their lives. Participants may vary from occasional and non-practicing Catholics or others from different Christian denominations, to those unfamiliar or struggling with religious teachings, or questioning a belief in God. The 12 sessions, which run from mid-October through January, provide a basic understanding of Christian principles and practical ways to incorporate them into daily life. Each evening begins with a meal and socializing, followed by the airing of a half-hour video. An introductory evening will be held Wednesday, October 14, at St. Paul’s School, 1789 Broad St., Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and supper is served at 6:30 p.m. Child care, including supper, will be provided.
