Posted

(Third century)

Feast day:?Sept. 7

Anastasius was a fuller or cloth merchant who was born in Aquileia, near what is now Venice. He moved to Salona in Dalmatia, in the former Yugoslavia, where he opened a cloth shop.

One time, he painted a cross on the door of his shop. He refused to remove the image and was subsequently arrested. When he refused to renounce his faith, he was martyred by being thrown into the sea with a rock around his neck.

Anastasius was one of many who were martyred during the Diocletian persecution.
