On Saturday, Feb. 1, six Dominican student brothers, two with ties to Providence College, professed their solemn vows in the Order of Preachers in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the national Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
Brother Damian Marie Day, O.P., who graduated from Providence College as Joseph Day in 2015, and Brother James Mary Rich, O.P., Class of ’08, were among those professing their Solemn Vows, a step toward their ordination as priests in the Dominican Order of Preachers.
In a 2015 interview with Rhode Island Catholic when he graduated from PC as co-valedictorian, Day, who majored in history and was very active in campus ministry, spoke of how he was preparing to begin formation for the priesthood in the Dominican Order.
A resident of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, since 2002, Brother Damian was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Seekonk, where he was an altar server and active in youth group. He is the second oldest of six children of Liz and Fred Day. He was homeschooled through 9th grade, then attended and graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth High School before going on to Providence College.
