BRISTOL —Deacon Dominic P. DiOrio, 87, formerly of Bristol passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. He was the husband of his beloved wife Doris A. (Rose) DiOrio.
He was born in Barrington, the son of the late Carmine and Mary (Parolisi) DiOrio. He lived in Barrington until 1996 before moving to Bristol.
He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960. He worked at the Naval Underwater System Center for 34 years before retiring in 1996. In 1985 to 1987 he served as Science Adviser for the US Navy Submarine force in the Pacific Ocean and received a Superior Civilian Service award for his performance during this assignment.
He was ordained as a Permanent Deacon on June 23, 1979. He has served as Chaplain at several nursing homes and at the Veterans Home in Bristol. He served as Deacon Assistant at several East Providence parishes including, Our Lady of Loreto, St. Brendan and St. Martha’s. He also served as Chaplain of the Bristol Chapter of the Daughters of Isabella.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Lisa Alonso and her husband Gregory of Chantilly, VA and a son, David DiOrio and his wife Cheryl of Swansea. He was the brother of Agnes Bosco of Warwick and Robert DiOrio of Warren. He also leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Antonette Iannucci.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on February 20 in Holy Angels Church, Barrington with burial in Maria del Campo Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Holy Angels Church.
