PROVIDENCE - Hundreds attended the annual Chrism Mass Monday evening at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. During the Mass, which was concelebrated with priests from around the state, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin blessed and consecrated the holy oils that will be used throughout the diocese during the coming year.
The Chrism Mass is also an important expression of unity among priests and their bishops, a special opportunity for priests to renew their priestly promises.
“Without a doubt the challenges of the priesthood are many, but so are the blessings,” the bishop shared during his homily. “How much consolation and joy we should find every day knowing that we have the opportunity to help people, to do good works, to build community, and to inspire moral values in our society.”
Bishop Tobin also thanked his brother priests for their dedicated work and generous service to God and the Catholic Church.
“As I’ve said so very often, I am very proud of the priests of this diocese. Led by truly good bishops in years past, you’ve developed a wonderful tradition of priestly fraternity and a legacy of remarkable service. And for that we give thanks and praise to God.”
