‘The Outsiders’ plays this weekend at Bishop Hendricken

WARWICK — The Arts at Bishop Hendricken will proudly present The Outsiders as its 2024 spring play from April 5-7, 2024 in the Dr. Daniel S. Harrop Theater on campus.
“At its core, The Outsiders is a story of brotherhood, a value that is quintessential Hendricken,” said Julia Paolino, Director of Arts and Drama Program Coordinator. “These characters are chosen family – something our close-knit theatre students, and all Hendricken students for that matter, can really relate to. This production especially highlights our strong group of senior actors and tech crew who will be taking their last bows as Hendricken students. This piece feels like a perfect culmination of their journey and we can’t wait to share it with our greater community.”
Based on the modern classic by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders is a searing story of real kids in real situations with real consequences seen through the eyes of Ponyboy. Territorial battles between the have-it-made rich kids — the Socs — and Ponyboy’s tough, underprivileged “greaser” family and friends are just a part of life. But even in the midst of urban gang warfare, somehow Ponyboy can’t forget a short poem that speaks to their fragile young lives. This heroic story of belonging, friendship, and maintaining hope in the face of struggle is a powerful reminder of what young people encounter every day.
Bishop Hendricken’s production features a company of 40+ student actors and technicians from around the state of Rhode Island.
The production will feature a 3-show run with performances on: Friday, April 5 at 7pm; Saturday, April 6 at 7pm; and Sunday, April 7 at 2pm. For ticket cost and information, visit https://bhhsri.booktix.net/.
