Rhode Island Catholic, El Católico win an unprecedented 27 national Catholic Press awards

Posted

CHICAGO — Rhode Island Catholic and its Spanish language publication, El Católico de Rhode Island, were honored on Thursday, July 2, with a combined 27 awards by the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada during the organization’s 2020 Catholic Media Convention and Awards Banquet. The newspapers won a variety of awards for writing and photography, as well as advertising and design.

Hundreds of members of the Catholic Press gathered in their offices and homes across the U.S. and Canada to watch online the first-ever virtual Catholic Press Awards celebrating the best in Catholic journalism.

The awards were bestowed at the end of a three-day online media convention featuring educational seminars for journalists and Catholic communicators. The 2020 Catholic Media Convention and Awards banquet was originally scheduled to take place in Portland, Oregon, this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was instead live-streamed, featuring award presenters broadcasting from Washington, D.C., Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Vatican City.
