Reverend Frederick V. Slota


PROVIDENCE — Reverend Frederick V. Slota, 95, Pastor Emeritus of St. Adalbert Parish in Providence, died Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
Born in West Warwick, R.I., son of the late John and Mary A. (Dudek) Slota, he attended St. Mary School and West Warwick High School, both in West Warwick. In preparation for the priesthood he studied at St. Mary College and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, both in Orchard Lake, Michigan. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1953 at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Providence by Bishop Russell J. McVinney.
Father Slota served as assistant pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Central Falls (1953-61) and at St. Adalbert Parish, Providence (1961-70). In 1970, he was appointed pastor of St. Adalbert Parish and remained there until his retirement as Pastor Emeritus in 2006.
During retirement, Father Slota resided at the St. John Vianney Residence in Providence.
In 1978, on the occasion of his 25th anniversary of ordination, Father Slota was nominated an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of the Diocese of Lomza in Poland.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was offered for the repose of his soul on Saturday, March 13, at St. Adalbert Church, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
