WARWICK — Richard, Regina B. (Avery), a resident of Warwick since 1946, died on May 12, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Richard for 62 years and the mother of the late Edward F. Richard Jr. She was the mother-in-law to Doris Richard, of Florida. She was born in Charles Cove, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late George and Mabel (Richard) Avery. She was the loving grandmother of Regina B. Tibbitts, of Warwick; Tina Mierra, of Colorado; and Tonya Weve, of Kansas. She was the sister of the late brothers Dave, Frank, and Nelson Avery; and sister of Christina Pellerin, Julia Avery, Mabel Pellerin and Rita Sweeney. She was a half-sister of Arthur and Rita Jean Richard.
She spent a lifetime of volunteer services receiving several awards with her late husband from the Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts as den mother and training commissioner. At St. Rita’s Church, Warwick, she promoted religious awards and shut-in Masses and directed the annual church musicals. In 1958 she and her husband both received the Leadership Warwick Award, and the Salvation Army Award for 15 years of service with the Warwick Unit. In 2016, she received the Honor Roll award for her service at her home in Nova Scotia.
She was the secretary to Msgr. Robert C. Newbold, of Our Lady of Providence Seminary High School for 12 years. She was the CFO for Warwick Community Action for three years before being appointed director of Foster Grandparents for 12 years. In 1985, she represented Rhode Island at a White House luncheon hosted by First Lady Nancy Reagan on the 20th Anniversary of the Foster Grandparents Program.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 16 at St. Clement Church, Warwick, with burial at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. Clement Church, 111 Long St, Warwick, R.I., or to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
