Parishes offer blessings to all creatures, great and small
In the spirit of St. Francis, animal blessings bring pets, people together
On Friday, Oct. 4, the Feast of St. Francis, Deacon Scott Brown visited the Providence Police Mounted Command and blessed the police horses. Here, he is pictured giving a special blessing to “Thunder.”

For the first time, St. Ann’s Church, Providence, welcomed a fish for a special blessing at their annual event, as well as may other pets on Saturday, Oct. 5.

St. Ann Pastor Father Albert Ranallo’s stole was also made by a parishioner. It features multi-colored paw prints, perfect for the occasion. The annual Blessing of the Animals commemorates the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment.
