New diocesan 'Seek & Find Series' aims to evangelize, inspire

PROVIDENCE — It was the perfect setting for Sister Elizabeth Castro, H.M.S.P., to tell her vocation story.

The Missionary Sisters Servant of the Word sister paused for a moment to look out over the ice at Providence College’s Schneider Arena as she recalled the formative years she spent as a determined skater growing up in her native Mexico City.

“That was my passion, to be a great ice skater,” Sister Castro said. “But God works in mysterious ways.”

After collecting her thoughts she told her story once more, this time on camera, including the part about her accident on the ice which eventually put her on the path to becoming a religious sister.

The footage is but one installment of a new short video series that is being produced by the diocesan Office of Communications. The biweekly series is being posted on the Diocese of Providence’s YouTube page and is aimed at evangelizing to the local diocesan community and beyond.

“We hope that people will find inspiration from these short videos as our priests, religious and lay people answer a variety of questions related to the Faith,” said Assistant Chancellor for the Diocese of Providence Father Nathan Ricci.

Other videos currently on the site feature Fathers Christopher Murphy and Adam Young sharing stories on the topics of vocations and parish evangelization. Each video in the series is about three minutes in length.

In addition to viewing the vignettes on the diocese’s YouTube page, parishes and schools are being encouraged to share these rich stories on social media and their own websites or apps as well.

“Both Catholics and non-Catholics alike have deep and profound questions about the Catholic faith and our purpose in this world. We hope that in asking these deep questions during their faith journey this series will help them find the answers they seek. Every question of faith, of course, leads to the truth — Jesus Christ — who sets us free,” Father Ricci said.

“Only the Divine Truth can satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart. At the end of the day, the Diocese of Providence’s “Seek & Find Series” has one goal: re-introduce people to Jesus Christ, and lead them to deeper friendship with Him.”
