LETTER TO THE EDITOR

More sacred scripture must be made available to the faithful for worship

TO THE EDITOR:

Amidst the controversy surrounding the use of the Tridentine Mass, I have not seen any reference to the Lectionary. The Second Vatican Council called for a greater panoply of sacred scripture to be opened to the faithful in liturgical celebrations and the present Roman Lectionary attempts to fulfill this mandate. The use of the Tridentine Rite shows no such interest in exposing us to the breadth of Scripture, and Pope Benedict’s suggestion that the present lectionary could be used with the Tridentine Mass has, as far as I can see, been ignored. Is no one troubled by this?
