CRANSTON — Irene (Box) Ruscito, 89, of Cranston, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Thursday evening, March 23, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late Alphonse A. Ruscito for 49 years.
Born Nov. 11, 1933, in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Salvatore and Theresa (Montaquila) Box.
She worked in the jewelry industry for more than 30 years before retiring. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, tending her flower garden, and cooking and baking especially during the holidays and Sunday afternoons. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. She had prayerful devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Faustina Kowalska. She was involved in many church groups including St. Mary’s Feast Society/Ladies Auxiliary, Regina Coeli Society, VFW Auxiliary, Italian Cultural Society, Legion of Mary Auxiliary and the Knightsville Senior Center Group. In 2010, she received St. Mary’s Feast Society Outstanding Benefactor Award .
She leaves her two daughters, Theresa Silva and her husband Antonio of Cranston; Paula Bucci and her husband Charles Rochon of Coventry; her three beloved grandchildren, Father Eric Silva, a priest of the Diocese of Providence, Kristine Bucci of Alexandria, Va, and Tara Bucci of Sacramento, Calif; her sister, Sylvia Cambio of Cranston and her sister-in-law Carolyn Box, of Narragansett. She was also the sister of the late Carmella “Connie” Divona, Louise Beretto, Helen “Honey” Pono, Anna DiCarlo, Bernice Corsi and Salvatore Box Jr., and also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place on April 4 in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston, with burial in St. Ann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Saint Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston St., Cranston, RI 02920.
