Caring about education

Above, students performing in the Bishop McVinney School choir share their gift of song with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Ken Wagner during his visit to the school.

Wagner spent the afternoon visiting classrooms, seeing what Catholic schools have to offer and learning of the great potential of all the students. Commissioner Wagner explained that one size does not fit all when it comes to education, so he supports maintaining a wide range of options for students and their families.

“I enjoyed visiting Bishop McVinney Catholic Elementary School to see some of the great teaching and learning under way in one of our fine diocesan schools,” he said.

Eighth-graders expressed their hopes for the future with the commissioner, some sharing that they hope to become doctors, artists, lawyers and musicians.

To the students, Principal Lou Hebert encouraged them to work hard for their dreams. “Go for it,” he said. “Don’t let anything stop you.”
