PROVIDENCE — Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., recently made a pastoral visit to the San Miguel School, a Catholic, independent middle school for Boys, founded by Brother Lawrence Goyette FSC. It is one of the five Lasallian Ministries in Rhode Island, along with La Salle Academy, St. Raphael Academy, Ocean Tides and Tides Family Services.
Two students, fifth-grader Diego Ramirez and seventh-grader Edward Gonzalez, acted as the bishop’s tour guides.
One of the highlights of the tour was the time they spent in the new STEAM Center, where the boys are using Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.
In the school’s STEAM CENTER the students are using what they learn to design and build their own robots.
Bishop Lewandowski also took time to address the whole student body about the numerous new things he is enjoying as he travels around the state.
He mentioned eating his first clam cakes and chowder, which was a totally new taste experience. He also enjoyed going out in a boat for the first time when he blessed the fishing fleet in Narragansett.
At the end of his visit, the bishop invited the students to come to the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul for a personally guided tour.
Executive Director of San Miguel Mel Bride presented the bishop with a gift packet of Christmas Cards which were designed by the students and available for sale to raise funds for the school.
