PROVIDENCE — Medical professionals, caregivers, and students from across the Diocese of Providence gathered at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel at Providence College for the annual White Mass, celebrated on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Feb. 11.

In his homily, Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., reflected on the Wedding at Cana and the moments in life — and in medicine — when people feel they have “run out” of strength, hope, or options. He reminded healthcare professionals that even in the most difficult moments at the bedside, Christ’s love and grace never run out, and their presence can be a powerful sign of His compassion and healing.

Deacon Timothy Flanigan, M.D., Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice and Professor of Medicine, noted that the White Mass offers healthcare professionals a chance to strengthen their faith together and reflect on how it is lived out in daily practice. “Our faith is lived out — not just at Sunday Mass, but in our hospitals and clinics,” he shared, expressing gratitude to Bishop Lewandowski for celebrating the liturgy and to the Providence College School of Nursing for hosting the gathering.
