TO THE EDITOR:
On a recent Sunday, while walking by our parish church, I noticed about a dozen people carrying signs facing traffic on Warwick Avenue. They had been there for nearly an hour participating in the annual Life Chain Sunday.
At the end of the hour all went into the church to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet. On my way in, I noticed the various signs on the table in the entrance. All were related to abortion. My favorite was: Make adoption an option. I wondered if anyone had chosen that sign as the pile looked undisturbed.
As we were leaving, the gentleman near me said, “I wonder why there aren’t more people…?” I’ve been thinking about this and wondered if perhaps the pro-life advocates might be willing to add a few more signs to next year’s Life Chain. What if some of the signs said:
Stop Abortion; End the Death Penalty; Welcome Immigrants; Save the Planet; War No More; Share the Wealth.
All of these are life issues. Life in the womb is certainly sacred, but all life is sacred. Maybe more people would be willing to participate if the movement were for life in all its forms. It’s just a thought.
