St. Paul to sponsor ‘Prayer Fair’

CRANSTON – St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place, will offer its third annual “Prayer Fair,” Nov. 5, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending with a weekend Mass at 4:30 p.m. The program will include presentations about various ways to pray, as well as time for personal reflection. ‘Be Not Afraid’ Ministry training

PROVIDENCE – “Be Not Afraid” is a program and a network of concerned parents and professionals who have experienced or worked closely with issues surrounding poor prenatal diagnosis (PPD). Training for those interested in becoming laity or peer ministers for this new ministry in our diocese will be provided through the Office of Life and Family Ministry. The first training session will be held on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Diocese of Providence office building, One Cathedral Square. The presenter is Sandy Buck of the “Be Not Afraid Ministry.” She will help peer ministers to understand how to approach parents with sensitivity who are experiencing a PPD and help them to learn affirmations to encourage parents to carry to full term. The training will also provide basic bereavement information. The workshop fee includes a light lunch. A support session will be held for expectant parents or parents who have experienced a poor prenatal diagnosis, Nov. 5, 10 a.m.- 2:30 p.m., in the Diocesan Office Building. The program will explore difficult issues such as maintaining hope when a prognosis is poor, medical decision-making during pregnancy and beyond, neonatal critical care, possible stillbirth and mourning the loss of the anticipated baby. St. Luke invites Catholics to ‘come home’

BARRINGTON – St. Luke Church, 108 Washington Road, will host a Day of Evangelization, Oct. 29, beginning with the recitation of the rosary, 8:30 a.m., followed by Mass, neighborhood visitations, lunch and time for reflection on experiences. Sts. John and Paul presents ‘Apologetics for Catholics’

COVENTRY – Sts. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main St., will continue its adult education series, “Apologetics for Catholics,” every fourth Tuesday of the month, beginning Oct. 25, 7 p.m., in the rectory conference room. Taught by Franciscan of the Immaculate Father Bonaventure Mary, the interactive class will explore apologetics, which are key reasons that can be shared and discussed in defense of church doctrine. St. Martin de Porres Center hosts 2012 Medicare programs
