Youth educators play vital role

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

Education is an investment. Whether it is time, resources or money, we receive in proportion to what we are willing to give.

Ultimately, what we are investing in when it comes to education is our future. How encouraging, then, to see on the ballot this November an investment in education in classrooms and nursing facilities that will earn dividends on our care for the sick, the vulnerable and the elderly who have spent a lifetime caring for us.

As rector of our local regional college seminary, it gives me great joy to be a part of the education of our young men who will embrace the work of caring for souls as they say “Yes” to a priestly vocation in the Church. I would encourage Catholics and non-Catholics alike to vote “Yes” on Question # 3 this November so that the education of nurses and health care workers will continue to flourish in our state as they care for the bodies and souls of those who they will serve for years to come.

Education is an investment in our future, spiritually and physically. Perhaps not all of us can teach or assist the sick and dying with professional skills and expertise.

Yet all of us can participate in collectively supporting the renovation and expansion of health and nursing facilities that will play a vital role not only in educating our young people, but ultimately reflecting our investment in caring for the sick, and for “the least of these,” who Christ identifies himself with in the Gospel.
