Young and old called to end tyranny of abortion

Posted

This weekend thousands will once again make the pilgrimage for life and pause and pray for an end to the terrible evil begun on January 22, 1973.

On that infamous day the nation’s highest court denied the right to life of the most vulnerable in our society. Nearly four decades later the evil legitimized by the Roe v. Wade decision has stained the fabric of our society and culture with the blood of 50 million unborn children (according to National Right to Life statistics) killed in their mothers’ wombs. The battle to save and respect life has not yet ended but continues to this very day with renewed vigor. Thousands are to gather from across the nation at the U.S. Capitol, others are to gather at local statehouses and in local churches to protest this grave evil and pray for an end of this tragic injustice.

The battle for the culture of life has not ended but continues on as the one of the most pro-abortion administrations in our nation’s history will stop at nothing to enshrine in law and expand in practice, the slaughter of innocents. Catholic hospitals and health care institutions are a prime target for this radical group of anti-life leagues aided by the Obama administration as they seek to deny the treatment of the poor and needy unless abortion inducement drugs are provided and attempt to make the Catholic institutions of our nation pay for abortion. Unfortunately, the evil axis of Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the ACLU have found not only a friend in the Obama administration but also a pro-active supporter in Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

The chorus opposing the sin of abortion is growing across the nation - especially among young people who are turning in great numbers toward embracing the culture of life. Realizing that the multi-million dollar abortion industry spawned by the Roe v. Wade decision has little to offer them other than death and demise, young Americans continue to reject the lies and untruths of the pro-abortion axis of evil. In fact the increasingly large number of young people joining the Annual March for Life is clear evidence that the young people of our nation are making the call of Pope Benedict at this year’s World Youth Day a reality in our nation: “Look for truth with reason and heart to fearlessly defend the freedom of all.”

We encourage all Catholics and indeed all citizens of goodwill to join us in the battle to restore a culture of life in our nation. It is a battle that must be fought on all fronts, protesting on streets and praying in churches, and fought by all, both young and old, if abortion is to be ended and the destruction of our future generations stopped. Pope Benedict XVI has continually reminded our nation that “the freedom to kill is not true freedom, but a tyranny that reduces the human being to slavery.” The battle lines have been drawn and we call upon all to join the fight against the tyranny called abortion.
