President Obama recently hosted the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual tradition at the White House. As part of his remarks to the invited guests he stated, “Our job is not to ask that God respond to our notion of truth -- our job is to be true to Him, His word, and His commandments.” At that moment, he was speaking about terrorist acts and he went on to say, “No grievance justifies the taking of innocent lives, or the oppression of those who are weaker or fewer in number.”
If your faith compels you to make that statement about the threat of terrorism abroad, Mr. Obama, what grievance would justify the taking of the most innocent of all human life, the unborn from the mother’s womb?
Perhaps the most egregious act against one’s faith is the attempt to distort and twist the veracity of doctrine to meet one’s personal desire. The president’s stand on abortion is in direct conflict with his earlier statements where he says our goal is not to convince God of our will but to subordinate our will to His. As is often the case, Mr. Obama speaks eloquently but his actions do not match his words.
One more case-in-point, as if it were needed, is the statement of the president at the same event, “So the freedom of religion is a value we will continue to protect here at home… and is one that we guard vigilantly here in the United States.” Unless of course, you dare express your Catholic views – he did not say out loud.
