LETTER TO THE EDITOR

What factors drive newspaper’s ads?

TO THE EDITOR:

Congratulations to the R.I. Catholic for providing much hilarity here at Brown University by advertising "The Pope's Cologne."

Once again we have managed to hold ourselves up for ridicule by confirming non-Catholics' image of us as low-brow rubes who would fall for such a laughable advertising ploy.

While I have tried to take the ribbing with good grace, it is much more difficult for me to overlook the rank heresy of the superstitious prayers in the classified section which promise results for the performance of certain rituals, especially if accompanied by publication in a newspaper.

Am I to supposed to believe that this has the imprimatur of the diocese? Or are you that desperate for income?
