LETTER TO THE EDITOR

We must model life after Christ

Posted

TO THE EDITOR:

Pope Benedict has called for a new evangelization to “those who have experienced a crisis of faith due to secularization."

To me, the big culprit in all this is religious hypocrisy. I am convinced that many who share an aversion to the Christian faith have reached that point because they feel that those who profess religious faith are no better than anyone else in society. They reach the conclusion that to pursue Christianity is just a waste of time.

Even Christ recognized the religious hypocrisy of his day and calls us to " first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Matt. 7:3-5.

Before we speak to others about the joy of knowing Jesus, we need to pattern ourselves after Christ and live with him in our hearts. It is our actions that lend credence to our Christian love for Jesus. When our humility, prayers, forgiveness, and love for others is genuine, even those of little faith will notice how our belief has changed our lives. That just might gain their undivided attention.
