Theresa Bastia

JOHNSTON — Theresa (DePalma) Bastia, 90, the mother of Very Rev. Raymond B. Bastia, diocesan secretary for Planning and Financial Services, died March 4. She was the wife of the late Antonio Bastia and the daughter of the late Domenico and Maria (Catalusci) DePalma.

She lived in the Federal Hill section of Providence for many years before moving to Johnston in 1964.

After her retirement from the jewelry industry, she volunteered at the Fruit Hill Day Care Center for the Elderly in North Providence, and was a member of a choral group that sang at the Cherry Hill Nursing Home, Johnston. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, and an auxiliary member of the parish St. Ann Sodality and the parish patronal feast committee.

In addition to Father Bastia, she is survived by two other sons, Anthony M. and Edward J. Bastia; and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph, Orlando, Maria and Florence DePalma, Rose Rossi, Lillian DiMuccio, Mary Durning and Snelda Procaccini, and mother-in-law of the late Marie (DeMasi) Bastia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 8 at Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
