The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary

Saturday, December 8

Posted

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is the Patronal Feast for the United States.

Unlike other holy days when the obligation to attend Mass is dispensed if the holy day is celebrated on either a Monday or a Saturday, Catholics are always obliged to attend Mass on this Marian holy day. Therefore, December 8, 2007 is a holy day of obligation even though it falls on Saturday this year.

To satisfy the Mass obligation for the holy day obligation and for Sunday, one must participate in two Masses that weekend.
