The recent “Women’s March on Washington,” drew crowds in the hundreds of thousands in protest of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. While President Trump has yet to sign any executive order bent on the demise of women, only time will tell if he is, in fact, the nemesis many believe him to be.
Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands descended upon Washington, D.C. this week to confront an enemy that has devastated women by the millions: abortion. Notwithstanding the brutal fact that abortion claims the lives of close to a million unborn children each year, what it does to women should itself be enough to sound the alarm and raise the flag in protest. Scientific studies reveal that induced abortion increases the risk of placenta previa, a condition that endangers the lives of both the mother and her future children. Women who have had an abortion are more at risk for having children with a low birth weight, and preemies that do not survive; they have a higher risk of breast cancer, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and suicide. In a country where over 20 percent of all pregnancies end in abortion, the real enemy of women has been active and effective in destroying women’s lives for more than 40 years.
There were two Marches on Washington, D.C. in these recent two weeks, and both of them advocated to protect the rights and reproductive health of women. Ultimately, time will reveal the real enemy.
