Students form friendship with local veteran through school project

At the end of the school year, Laurel McMahon and Isabelle Powers, eighth graders at St. Rose of Lima School, completed their National History Day Project on D-Day. SS. Rose and Clement’s Parishioner, Owen Mahoney, who served in WWII and is a D-Day veteran, reached out to the girls when he heard about their project. He then met with the middle school students at St. Rose to share his first-hand account. On June 2, Mahoney was part of the Rhode Island Honor Flight Whiskey. When both girls heard that he was part of this flight they were there at the airport when he landed at 10:30 p.m. to surprise him and thank him for his service.
