NEWPORT – Stephen P. Watterson, 62, died Dec. 21, 2011 at Heatherwood Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was the brother of Rev. John E Watterson of Fall River, Mass., pastor emeritus of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Narragansett.
A native of Newport, he was the son of the late former Newport Fire Chief John E. Watterson and Edith (Rafferty) Watterson.
He lived in Newport most of his life, and was formerly employed at Electric Boat of Quonset and most recently as a driver for Cozy Cab Company.
In addition to Father Watterson, he is survived by one son, Peter Karlsson of Sweden; three other brothers, William M. Watterson of Portsmouth, Daniel J. Watterson of Elizabethtown, Ky., and James P. Watterson of Westport, Mass.; two sisters, Marilyn W. O'Shea of Lakeville, Mass. and Kathleen E. Watterson of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 12 at St. Christopher's Church, Tiverton. Burial was in St. Columba's Cemetery, Middletown.
