PROVIDENCE – Following a National World Youth Day Mass, October 28, 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul at which Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will serve as the main Celebrant and homilist, the bishop and the diocesan Office for Comprehensive Youth Ministry will bestow upon 17 young adults and 10 adult leaders the highest award given to those involved with youth ministry in the Catholic Church.

The Mount St. Charles High School Choir, under the direction of Greg Cooney, will provide music for the liturgy.

Awardees will be honored with the St. Timothy Award for juniors or seniors in high school or early college and adults with the Companions on the Journey for those who have dedicated 10 years of service or more in their parish or Catholic school. Also presented will be the first Human Life Guild Recognition Award for Youth.

“This awards ceremony is held to honor young people and adults who are exemplary models of faith,” said Louise Dussault, director of the Office for Comprehensive Youth Ministry. “It is encouraging to witness so many young people active and engaged in living out their faith each and every day. Their dedication to helping others as a response to their love for God is a sign of hope for the church and the world. Reviewing all the nominations that were received gave powerful evidence to the difference that youth and their leaders are making.”

All are invited to attend the Mass and award ceremony.
