During a holy hour at St. Thomas the Apostle Church to commemorate the centennial of the apparitions at Fatima on Wednesday, Sept. 13, Father John E. Abreu, pastor, leads an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament as the faithful prayed the rosary in English and Portuguese, offer prayers to the Blessed Mother. Parishioner Anne Furtado, who has twice visited the site of the apparitions in Fatima, Portugal, was pleased with the large turnout.

“It makes you feel good, because this goes back a hundred years,” she said of the marking of the anniversary. She noted how important it is for everyone to keep the Blessed Mother in their prayers with the faith that she can help change the world for the better. “She converted Russia, why can’t she convert us,” Furtado said. “If more people would only get away from the materialism of this world, I think it would be a better place.”
