LETTER TO THE EDITOR

St. Mary’s parish is still vibrant

Posted

To the Editor,

I was happy to read the letter by Dr. Robert A. Tucker about the musicals performed by the students at St. Mary's School on Broadway in Providence.

However, as the current pastor of St. Mary's I must make one correction. Dr. Walker refers to the Church of St. Mary and its school as "once very vibrant…now closed." Let me assure you that the Church of St. Mary on Broadway is not closed. Under the pastoral care of the Franciscan Friars this is still a very vibrant parish. There are more than just wonderful memories here.

St. Mary's is alive with a faith-filled, diverse and welcoming community of believers. The school, while not run by the parish, is still filled with learning and laughter and even a school play or two. We are very happy to have a campus of the Paul Cuffee School in our building. St. Mary's Church is still a wonderful parish and I invite Dr. Walker and all alums of St. Mary's to come and see the vibrancy that is alive and well on Broadway!
