EAST PROVIDENCE — St. Brendan Robotics Club has entered a team in the First Lego League (FLL). The team will be competing in the state tournament held in January, 2008.

Each year FLL develops a series of challenges students must find a robotic solution to. This year’s theme is focused on forms of renewable energy.

During the tournament, teams from different schools are given three chances to complete as many challenges as possible in two-and-a-half-minutes. Teams are awarded points for successful completion of each challenge. At the end of the three rounds, the highest point total for the rounds is counted.

Teams are also judged on teamwork and a related research project which is presented to a panel of judges. The team with the highest cumulative score, represents the state at the World Tournament.

This is the fourth year that St. Brendan School has participated in FLL. This year, there are seven students in Grades 5-8 on the team. This past spring, a team from the school also participated in Robotics Park, which is sponsored by the Rhode Island School of the Future.
