With St. Ambrose Church Pastor Father Thomas J. Ferland looking on at back, John and Carmelina Guarino, and fellow members of the St. Ambrose Church Community Garden Committee, including Aldo and Madeline Cavallaro and Harry Hickey, far right, present a check for $1,000 to James Jahnz, center, emergency services coordinator for the Diocese of Providence, at St. Ambrose rectory on Tuesday, April 4. The funds will support operations at Emmanuel House, the diocesan-run homeless shelter located in Providence. Members of the Garden Committee raised $2,500 during last year’s growing season selling produce from the parish garden following weekend Masses. Checks were also presented to the food pantries of St. John the Baptist Church, Pawtucket, and St. James Church, Manville. Volunteers from any parish are welcome to assist with the St. Ambrose Community Garden. Planting will begin on April 29 and work will continue every Saturday through the 2017 growing season.
