African Catholic Community to celebrate CD launch
PROVIDENCE — The African Catholic Community of Rhode Island will host a music album launch on September 14, 5 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Hall, 21 Traverse Street. Admission is free. Support the African Catholic Community by purchasing a CD. The evening will be a rich variety of African traditional music and delicious African dishes. Grand opening of Museum of Family Prayer
NORTH EASTON, Mass. — The Museum of Family Prayer: A Contemporary Experience of Father Peyton’s Ongoing Ministry will have its grand opening with Mass and blessing on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. The museum continues the work of Venerable Patrick Peyton’s mission of encouraging families to pray daily, particularly the Rosary. Bishop Edgar da Cunha, S.D.V., D.D., Fall River, will preside and preach at Mass and the blessing at St. Joseph Chapel at 500 Washington St., North Easton, Mass. Knights to sponsor Blood Drive
PROVIDENCE — The St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council 11684 will be having a Blood Drive on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave. The drive is in memory of Francesca Illiano who passed away at 5 months old. The blood drive will feature Star Wars characters, Star Wars books, a reading circle for the children while the parents give blood, pizza strips, Spanish pies and calzones, cookies, juice and coffee. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also register at www.ribc.org/drives to make an appointment.
Regina Coeli Society meeting scheduled
CRANSTON — The next meeting of the Regina Coeli Society of St. Mary’s Church will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Mass will be held at 6 p.m. in the upper church. A meeting will follow at 7 p.m. in the parish center. New members are always welcome.
Presentation and discussion of pro-life movie ‘Unplanned’
PROVIDENCE — On Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., St. Augustine Parish, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., will present the pro-life movie “Unplanned.” “Unplanned” is the real-life story of Abby Johnson who was a Planned Parenthood executive before having a conversion to the pro-life movement and Catholic Church. A discussion will be held downstairs in O’Brien Hall following the movie. Please note that due to the “R” rating, children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, or have written permission to view the movie. Auction event to benefit Mustard Seed Community
NARRAGANSETT — St. Thomas More Parish will host an evening to benefit the disabled orphans in the Dominican Republic. Parish missionaries will visit the Mustard Seed Community in February 2020. The event will be held at The Dunes Club on September 20 with cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Enjoy live music, silent and live auctions and a cash bar. Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick within Mass
PROVIDENCE — A Mass with prayers for healing will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave., on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m. by Father Joseph Pranzo. Those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age may receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick within Mass. This Mass will be offered every third Saturday every other month. Fall Dance at St. Thomas the Apostle Church
WARREN — St. Thomas the Apostle Church will host a Fall Dance on September 21 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the church hall, 500 Metacom Ave. The band 4’s Country will be providing the music for the evening. The kitchen will be open to purchase sandwiches, pizza, soda, and water or you may bring your own food and drinks. Coffee, tea, and pastry will be provided. Bring a pastry to share. An Evening of Sacred Music
CRANSTON — The Music Ministry of Saint Matthew Church presents “An Evening of Sacred Music” on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. This concert will commemorate the 110th Anniversary of Saint Matthew Church. Under the direction of Kyle P. Jameson, KHS, and accompanied by organist Paul A. Boucher, the choir will perform a vast array of sacred music from various eras, styles and composers. Knights to host blood drive
BRISTOL — The Knights of Columbus Council 379 will host a blood drive at Saint Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood St., on September 22 from 8 a.m. - noon. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. Please come and help to save a life. Every pint of blood donated can save up to three lives.
An Evening with Father Pat
PROVIDENCE — St. Agnes Church, 351 Branch Ave., will host “An Evening with Father Pat” on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m., in the church hall. Father Pat has been hosting evenings of music at LaSalette Shrine for decades and will bring his music to the parish. Refreshments will be served. Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group
PROVIDENCE — The Our Lady of Sorrows Bereavement Support Group, offered by the Office of Life and Family, will be held at St. Pius V Rectory, 55 Elmhurst Ave., Saturday mornings 10 – 11:30 a.m., October 5 through November 16. This seven week support group provides a peaceful and healing environment for people to learn about grief and to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings, all with the spiritual comfort of our Catholic faith. This group will be facilitated by the St. Pius V Bereavement Ministry, and is most appropriate for adults at least three months beyond their loss. Seasons of Hope Grief Support Group
WESTERLY — Seasons of Hope will offer a six-week support group for those searching for comfort, hope and peace after losing a loved one. Each meeting includes prayer, Scripture reading and reflection, a video and discussion.
