Diocesan Youth Day to be a day of music, Sacraments, fun and fellowship
CUMBERLAND — This year’s Diocesan Youth Day will be held on Saturday, September 7, from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. The event, which will be held rain or shine (much of it will be outdoors), is for high school, college-aged youth and young adults. The day will feature music, games, workshops, Mass, adoration, reconciliation, food, fun and much more. The theme “Anchored” seeks to rouse the hearts of our young people to passionately grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. National Alliance on Mental Illness support group at Holy Family
PAWTUCKET — National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, will offer its local support group at Holy Family Parish on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s church hall, 195 Walcott St. NAMI is a confidential and safe support group for adults living with mental illness.
Knights of Columbus to host annual golf tournament
RICHMOND — The Knights of Columbus will host its 7th annual Golf Tournament on August 24 at the Richmond Country Club, 74 Sandy Pond Road. All proceeds directly benefit K of C charitable programs. Polkabration at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church
WOONSOCKET — St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 174 Harris Ave, will hold its annual Polish Festival Polkabration on Saturday, August 24, from 3-10 p.m. The kitchen will open at noon. The festival will include Polish and American food, games of chance, children’s entertainment and live music. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Masses for Recovery
WARWICK — The next Mass for Recovery will be offered on Sunday, August 25, 5 p.m., at St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane. These Masses, to which all are welcome, provide an opportunity for people to come together in faith to seek God’s loving kindness and grace with special prayer intentions dedicated for those in recovery. If you or loved ones struggle with alcohol, drugs, addictions, mental distress, or support folks who suffer from the effects of these issues, you are encouraged to attend. Two-Parish Blood Drive
CRANSTON — Immaculate Conception Church and St. Mark Church will host a Blood Drive on Monday August 26, from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Hall, next to Immaculate Conception Church, at 237 Garden Hills Drive. Refreshments and coffee will be available for all presenting donors. The event is sponsored by the St. Joseph Men’s Guild of Immaculate Conception Church. Bike Blessing and Motorcycle Run to benefit youth ministry
CUMBERLAND — The Youth Ministry at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, will host its annual Motorcycle Run and Bike Blessing on August 31. Proceeds from this event will help support the youth ministry program. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. from the rear parking lot. The ride is about 2 hours long, returning to the parish for food. Ticket includes food and t-shirt. Drinks will be available for purchase. Msgr. Blessing Knights Council to host second annual Comedy Fundraiser Night
COVENTRY — Msgr. Peter E. Blessing Council #5273 Knights of Columbus will host its 2nd annual Funny4Funds Comedy Fundraiser featuring top local comedians on Friday, Sept. 6, at Saints John and Paul Parish Center, 341 South Main St. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the comedy show starts at 8 p.m. There will be a cash bar (beer/wine) for 21+, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing. It’s “BYOS” – bring your own snacks. Proceeds will support the council’s “Coats for Kids” program purchasing new winter coats for children in need. Hope and Cope support group to meet
PORTSMOUTH — The St. Matthias Ministry Hope and Cope Support Group will meet on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 5 - 6 p.m. in the chapel meeting room, under the chapel, at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 E. Main Road. If you know someone who is supporting a loved one or friend in need of recovery or currently in recovery yourself, then this group is for you. Upcoming Diocesan Life and Family Events

Day of Remembrance will be held on September 14, 10 a.m. at Baby Land at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside. For one hour all gathered will pray the Rosary, and offer up special prayers for babies that have been aborted, miscarried or have died an early and unexpected death.

40 Days for Life will be held on September 25, following the noon Mass at the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul. There will be a prayerful procession to Planned Parenthood.

Life Chain Sunday will be held on October 6 at various locations throughout the Diocese of Providence. This will kick off Respect Life Month.

Human Life Guild Day will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Providence, beginning with 9 a.m. Mass. Bishop Tobin J. Tobin as celebrant and homilist. Reception will follow in the cathedral hall. Presentations will be as follows: Father Charles Dahm, O.P., Archdiocese of Chicago, Ill, keynote speaker will present a talk entitled “When I Call for Help,” covering domestic violence in relationships; Carol Owens and Carmen Recaldo-Russo will offer personal reflections and discuss services available; Father James Sullivan, O.P., Pastor of St. Pius V will speak on the topic of violence in the womb; Barth Bracy, executive director of Rhode Island Right to Life, will speak on upcoming elections; Father Nicholas Fleming, Human Life Guild Chaplain, will offer closing remarks and prayer.
