Faith-Based Prevention Tool Kit available for Newport County
TIVERTON —Newport County Prevention Coalition along with local parishes invite communities to attend a gathering of local faith and prevention leaders to receive copies of the newly designed Faith-Based Prevention Tool Kit for Newport County. The next gathering will be held Friday, July 27, 8:30 – 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Church, Tiverton, and is hosted by Father John Higginbotham. Breakfast refreshments will be provided. Faith Leaders are welcome to attend either of the two meetings based on convenience. The toolkit which has been in the works for several months, is the result of collaboration between local faith and prevention leaders and is meant to be a valuable resource for faith leaders across the county, providing practical information on substance abuse prevention in their communities as well as lists of local treatment and recovery resources. Masses for Recovery scheduled
PORTSMOUTH — The next Mass for Recovery will be offered on Sunday, July 29, 5 p.m., St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. These Masses, to which all are welcome, provide an opportunity for people to come together in faith to seek God’s loving kindness and grace with special prayer intentions dedicated for those in recovery. If you or loved ones struggle with alcohol, drugs, addictions, mental distress, or support folks who suffer from the effects of these issues, you are encouraged to attend. Office of Life and Family offering bereavement support group at St. Lucy Church
MIDDLETOWN — The Office of Life and Family is offering an on-going bereavement support group at St. Lucy Church, Parish Center, 909 West Main Road. It will begin on August 9 and meet again on August 23, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., and then continue on the second and fourth Thursday of each following month, 7- 8:30 p.m. This group provides a peaceful place to share your thoughts, experiences and feelings about your loss and a place to journey through grief together with the spiritual comfort of the Catholic faith. St. Bartholomew Church to celebrate annual feast, festival
PROVIDENCE — St. Bartholomew Church will hold their annual feast and festival on August 10, 11, and 12 from 5 – 10 p.m. on church grounds, 297 Laurel Hill Ave. The feast will feature a variety of Italian, American and Spanish foods as well as nightly musical entertainment with Gemini Band playing on Saturday from 6 – 10 p.m. Rockwell Amusements will provide amusement rides and games. Rhode Island Catholic Mom’s Group to host Preschool Story Hour
PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island Catholic Mom’s Group will host Preschool Story Hour at Holy Ghost Church, 472 Atwells Ave. The Preschool Story Hour will take place on August 2 and August 16 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., in the church hall located in the basement. NORTH SMITHFIELD — The Villa at Saint Antoine will host its second annual “All You Can Eat Chowder & Clam Cakes fundraiser on Friday, Aug. 3 from 3:30 - 7 p.m. in its courtyard, 400 Mendon Road in North Smithfield. Parish communities help offer meals, clothing to neighboring communities
WARWICK —Saints Rose and Clement’s Mother Teresa group has been providing free delicious meals, including desserts, and an assortment of free, gently-worn clothing in an assortment of sizes, to neighboring communities. The locations have been made possible through the kindness of the First Congregational Church of Warwick, at 715 Oakland Beach Ave., and Saints John and James, at 20 Washington St., in West Warwick. Their parish halls are alive with food and fellowship at the 5 p.m. meals held on the second Tuesday and the fourth Friday of the month. Mother Teresa Outreach Ministry is on Facebook.
