Ancora helps local women choose life

PROVIDENCE — On the second and fourth Monday of each month, the Ancora, Rhode Island Right to Life’s Mobile Ultrasound Clinic, will visit St. Gabriel’s Call, the diocesan pregnancy outreach ministry, at One Cathedral Square. Ancora is able to provide basic women’s health services and ultrasounds which will encourage more women to view a sonogram of their baby and choose life. New support group for divorced and separated Catholics

CAROLINA — The Office of Life and Family is offering a new support group for divorced and separated Catholics at St. Mary Church, rectory (downstairs, side entrance), 437 Carolina Back Road. The group is ongoing and will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. There are no costs to attend. This support group embraces our Catholic faith and God’s grace, and provides a peaceful place for sharing, healing and for topics/discussions related to separation/divorce. Free Income Tax Preparation

PROVIDENCE — Amos House, at 460 Pine St., will prepare free income tax returns for those who earned $55,000 or less in 2017. Appointments at this fully handicap-accessible site, which is open on Wednesdays and Fridays and will run through April 13, may be made by calling 401-272-0220. Young adult talk on Lent, fasting and saints who lived solely on the Eucharist

PROVIDENCE — Join the St. Pius V Young Adults on Thursday, Feb. 15 for a talk by Father Patrick Briscoe, O.P., on Lent, fasting and saints who lived solely on the Eucharist. St. Pius V Young Adults is a Catholic community open to anyone in their 20s and 30s. COVENTRY— SS. John and Paul Parish, 341 South Main St., will hold a day of penance and prayer on Saturday, Feb. 17, in the rectory chapel and conference room. Bread and water will be offered as penance and sacrifice on this day in Lent. ‘The Presentation of the Way of the Cross’

PROVIDENCE — Pretty Amazing Grace Productions is proud to present a Father Matthew Powell, O.P. Fish and Chips available at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus throughout Lent

Saint Patrick Church to offer Lenten Retreat

PROVIDENCE — Saint Patrick Church will offer a Lenten Retreat from February 17-20. Father Robert Perron, pastor of Saint Michael’s Church, will offer the homily at all English speaking Masses, and teaching at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. In addition to the teachings there will be a renewal of baptismal promises on Sunday. Confessions will be available on Monday and a Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday. Hope and Cope Group meetings scheduled

PORTSMOUTH — The next meeting of the Hope & Cope Group is February 18, at 5 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. Hope & Cope is a faith-based support group intended for those struggling with or supporting a family member or a friend struggling with alcohol or drug addictions or mental distress. Hope & Cope is open to everyone interested in this ministry. Meetings are held in the Chapel Meeting Room (under the small Chapel) from 5 – 6 p.m. This program is free, and no registration is required. Monthly General Grief Support Group meeting at the Villa at Saint Antoine

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island is offering off-site monthly general grief support group meetings at the Villa at Saint Antoine, 400 Mendon Road, open to any person experiencing the profound effects of loss and grief. Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month, including February 21 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Center for Hope & Healing support groups are facilitated as mutual support groups and participants do not have to have lost a loved one while in the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island. Woonsocket area churches plan Lenten services

WOONSOCKET — Seven Christian churches in Woonsocket, Slatersville and Blackstone are scheduling five prayer services on the Wednesdays of Lent at 7 p.m. offering hymns, prayer, Scripture reading and sermon on the traditional Lenten themes of repentance and renewal. Local and guest preachers will lead the services. St. Charles Church, 190 North Main St., will begin the series at 7 p.m. on February 21, followed by a joint effort of Our Saviour Polish National Church and Slatersville Congregational Church on February 28 with the 7 p.m. service at 500 Smithfield Road. All Saints Church, 323 Rathbun St., will continue the service at 7 p.m. on March 7. St. James Episcopal Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church will offer another joint service at 7 p.m. on March 14 at 24 Hamlet Avenue. Christ Community Church off Mendon Road at Church St. in Blackstone will conclude the series at 7 p.m. on March 21. Worshippers are invited to stay for fellowship after the services. Donations will be gladly accepted to benefit the local meal site New Beginnings on Rathbun St, Woonsocket. All services are open to the public.

Men’s Movie Night at McVinney to feature ‘Courageous’

Lenten Fish Dinner

BRISTOL — Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 141 State St., will host a Lenten Fish Dinner on Friday, Feb. 23 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the parish center. St. James Church Manville to host Lenten Fish Fry

MANVILLE — St. James Church, 33 Division St., will host a Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, Feb. 23 in the Father Brindamour Church Hall from 5 - 7:30 p.m. Fish and Chips will be served with bread, rolls, coleslaw, tartar sauce, dessert and beverages. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children 10 years old and younger. Tickets are available at the door. Take-out is also available. All proceeds will benefit the parish’s Social Ministry programs. St. Benedict Parish planning annual indoor flea market

WARWICK — St. Benedict Parish will host its annual indoor flea market on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at St. Benedict School, 70 Transit St. The event will feature something for everyone with thousands of items to browse. The kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch and will feature the event’s famous Hot Wieners.

WEST WARWICK — The next Mass for Recovery will be offered on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m., St. Mary’s Church, 68 Church St. These Masses, to which all are welcome, provide an opportunity for people to come together in faith to seek God’s loving kindness and grace with special prayer intentions dedicated for those in recovery. TIVERTON — Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 316 Judson St., will hold a Lenten Mission from Sunday, Feb. 25 – Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m., with Father John Zuhlsdorf. Day of Recollection to be held at St. Sebastian Church

PROVIDENCE — St. Sebastian Church on 67 Cole Ave., will host “Called to be Transfigured in the Christ,” a day of recollection on Saturday, March 3, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and concluding before the 5 p.m. Mass. The day will begin with a penance service and will feature Eucharistic adoration, an opportunity for confession, the Way of the Cross, and two conferences by Father Ray Tetrault. Father Tetrault was honored with a Lumen Gentium award for evangelization in 2016 and is a revered teacher of prayer and contemplation and a gentle advocate for peace. The Little Sisters of the Poor plan 10th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner

SEEKONK — The Little Sisters of the Poor Jeanne Jugan Residence of Pawtucket will host their annual Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner at The Old Grist Mill Tavern on Thursday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The St. Patrick’s Day Dinner is a wonderful tradition and a manifestation of the kindness and generosity of friends and benefactors, including Greg Esmay, proprietor of The Old Grist Mill Tavern who for 10 years has hosted this gathering donating the proceeds to the home. Proceeds from this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Dinner will help to repair the parking lots at Jeanne Jugan Residence. WARREN — St. Jean Cemetery and St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery will conduct its Christmas Cemeteries Cleanup on Saturday, March 17.
