Sister Rose Roffelsen, CSJ

NEWPORT – St. Joseph of Cluny Sister Rose Roffelsen, 91, died Feb. 21 at St. Clare Home.

Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Sister Roffelsen entered religious life on Oct. 3, 1953 and professed her first vows on Aug. 22, 1956. She spent the first 30 years of her religious life in Newport, where she taught music, piano, singing and history, seven of those teaching years spent at Cluny School. She also shared her musical talents at St. Augustin Parish, Newport and visited the sick and elderly at Village House.

In 1986, Sister Roffelsen was missioned to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where for 17 years she continued her ministry to the sick and elderly at Versa Care Center. She was a member of the Canadian Society for the Blind and a long time supporter of the Xavier Society for the Blind.

Sister Roffelsen was a resident at St. Clare Home for the past seven years. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 25 at St. Augustin Church. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.
