Sister Miriam Theresa Dailey RSM

CUMBERLAND — Mercy Sister Miriam Theresa Dailey, 96, a retired music educator, died August 1 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.

Baptized Mary Eleanor Dailey in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland, she was the daughter of John and Genevieve (Conroy) Dailey. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on July 2, 1929 and professed her vows on July 2, 1932. She taught music in various elementary schools in the Diocese of Providence for 12 years and in 1944 she was appointed to conduct the orchestra at St. Mary Academy-Bay View, East Providence, a position that she held until her retirement in 2001. She offered Suzuki lessons to students in the elementary school at Bay View, and gave private music lessons to high school students. Sister Dailey also played the organ at Mount St. Rita Chapel for many years.

She is survived by two sisters, Irene McElroy of Lincoln and Cyrella Conte of Pawtucket, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William, John, Henry and Daniel Dailey.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 5 in Mount St, Rita Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
