Sister Mildred Durocher, D.H.S., 96

PUTNAM, Conn. – Daughter of the Holy Spirit Sister Mildred Durocher, 96, formerly known as Sister Agathe de Jesus, died Dec. 23 at Holy Spirit Health Care Center where she had been in residence since 2002.

Baptized Mildred Marie Durocher, she was born in Providence, and was the daughter of the late Moise and Eva (Roy) Durocher. After nurse’s training at Hartford Hospital, she entered the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in 1935, and made her religious profession at the congregation’s motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France in 1938.

Sister Durocher served as a visiting nurse in Fall River, Mass., and later in Providence, and at St. Clare Home, Newport.

She also ministered as an elementary school teacher in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont. Beginning in 1975, she served as a dietician at Holy Spirit Convent, Bridgeport, Conn., for 10 years before her retirement.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 27 in the chapel of the Holy Spirit Provincial House. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam.
