Sister Mary Romanus Saleeba, R.S.M.

CUMBERLAND – Mercy Sister Mary Romanus Saleeba, 96, an accomplished seamstress and dedicated sacristan, died Nov. 6 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.

Born in Littleton, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Alban and Mary (Romanus) Saleeba and was baptized Josephine. Sister Saleeba entered the Sisters of Mercy on Sept. 8, 1942 and professed her perpetual vows on Aug. 16, 1948. Her first ministry was at Mount St. Rita Novitiate. She was later transferred to the former St. Aloysius Home in Greenville where she ministered from 1956-1968. Sister Saleeba also ministered at Mount St. Rita Convent, Cumberland, as sacristan and manager of the Health Centre Gift Shop. She retired in 2006.

Sister Saleeba is survived by a sister, Marion DeFontes of Seekonk, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret, Joseph, William, Raymond, Wallace, Eva Powers, Amelia Andre, Catherine Queija, and Lillian Humphrey.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 9 in Mount St. Rita Chapel, Cumberland. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
