PORTSMOUTH — Faithful Companion of Jesus Sister Mary Noella St. Pierre, 93, of St. Philomena Convent, died March 4 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown.
Born Marie St. Pierre in South Fitchburg, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Brien) St. Pierre, and step-daughter of Pierre Cormier.
Sister St. Pierre joined the Society of the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus on September 8, 1931 in Brussels, Belgium, and professed her final vows on April 4, 1940 at St. Joseph Convent, Fitchburg,
She taught at St. Joseph Elementary School, Fitchburg, from 1934 to 1982, with the exception of one year when she taught in St. Aloysius School, Gilbertville, MA. She was also church sacristan for 47 years in St. Joseph’s Parish.
Upon retiring, she moved to East Providence, where she volunteered as a pastoral assistant to the residents of several nursing homes, was involved with the Legion of Mary, and ministered among the Asian community. Sister St. Pierre transferred to St. Philomena Convent in 1984. She volunteered for two years at St. Anthony Parish, Portsmouth, and in 1986 she began to volunteer at St. Barnabas Parish, where she ministered to the parish's sick and elderly at home, in nursing homes and hospitals. She also assisted with the Legion of Mary, prayer groups, and instructed religious education classes.
She is survived by two sisters, Noella Gelinas of Fitchburg and Marguerite Cole of Richmond, VA; a half sister, Theresa Landry of Leominster, MA,; a step-brother, Camille Cormier of Arlington MA, and several nieces and nephews.
A?Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 8 at St. Philomena School. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.
