Sister Mary Doris Clarke

CUMBERLAND — Mercy Sister Mary Doris Clarke, 90, formerly Sister Mary Aquin, a retired educator and pastoral minister, died November 13 at St. Anne Hospital, Fall River, Mass.

Baptized Doris Clarke in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William and Ellen Newett Clarke. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1938 and professed her vows on March 12, 1941.

Sister Clarke ministered as a teacher in elementary schools in the Diocese of Providence for 53 years. She also served as a pastoral assistant in St. Joseph Parish, Providence, for many years before her retirement in 1995 to St. Mary Convent, Riverside.

Sister Clarke is survived by two brothers, Holy Cross Brother Stefan Clarke of Waterbury, Conn.; and William Clarke of Cambridge, Mass.; and a sister, Bernice Clarke of Cambridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 16 in Mount St. Rita Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
