CUMBERLAND — Mercy Sister Mary Conneely. 96, formerly known as Sister Mary Anthony, a retired educator, died November 24 at Mount St. Rita Health Care Centre.

Born in Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Brigid (Hession) Conneely. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Belize on July 31, 1930 and professed her vows on January 28, 1933.

Sister Conneely began her teaching ministry at Holy Redeemer School in Belize and later became principal of St. Ignatius School in Belize. She was later assigned to Mercymount School in Cumberland in 1969, where she ministered for two years, and then became principal of the former St. Joseph School, Pascoag. She became a teacher at St. Mary Academy-Bay View in 1976 and retired nine years later.

Sister Connelly is survived by a sister, Sister Christine Conneely of Newton, Mass., and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Peter, Dennis, John Edward and Joseph Connelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 27 in Mount St. Rita Chapel. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
